“Semi-open” MRI

We deliberately selected a “semi-open” magnetic resonance tomography system (MRI) with a larger opening and shorter “tube” than conventional MRI machines. The SIEMENS Aera 1.5 Tesla is particularly well suited for people with claustrophobia.

The MRI machine produces high-quality section images and combines the performance of a modern high-field MRI machine with the advantages of the so-called “semi-open” system. The machine has a 1.5 Tesla magnet, making it a true high-field MRI, so it produces image resolutions and quality several times greater than the previous classical open-style “sandwich MRI”. We therefore share the opinion of regional university clinics, which are now all using these “semi-open” systems. The length of the “tube” is now just 125 cm and the inner diameter is wide 70 cm. This is wide enough to bend the knees and accommodates patients with claustrophobia.

We deliberately selected a 1.5 Tesla unit instead of the 3 Tesla MRI, because numerous physical problems, such as the dielectric moment, are associated with potential image artifacts or increased nerve sensitivity and patient discomfort during the exam at 3 Tesla and have not yet been sufficiently addressed. All of these potential problems do not exist at 1.5 Tesla. Using the latest coil technology, the SIEMENS Aera 1.5 Tesla is equally capable for most issues, and in some cases even produces better images.

The head remains outside

Using special software, most exams can be performed “feet first,” so that the head remains outside of the “tube” throughout the exam.

Especially quiet with whisper mode

Our MRI machines use the latest technology and are therefore already much quieter than previous generations of MRI machines. If needed, the MR exam can also be performed in “whisper mode.” This “whisper mode” makes the exam even quieter—but the exam takes longer to produce the same image quality.

Our equipment includes two additional SIEMENS 1.5 Tesla machines.

Bright, modern MR exam rooms

At our new location in the center of the city, our patients enjoy special bright, friendly room design, illumination (lighting), including sky simulation, so the MR exam can be as pleasant as possible.
