Surely, your radiologist or treating physician has already explained a lot about the exam to you. But sometimes there are unanswered questions that only occur to you later, after the initial discomposure has passed. We have collected the most common questions below.
Why can’t you hear the ultrasound?
Ultrasound refers to sound waves of a frequency well beyond or above the hearing threshold, so they cannot be perceived by the human ear. The upper limit for high-frequency sounds or tones that can still just be perceived varies by individual, and is about 15 kilohertz (kHz).
Is ultrasound damaging?
No, there are no known side effects of diagnostic ultrasound.
